HAIR USE & CARE
HAIR CARE
Here are some tips that apply to almost all hair extensions.
- No swimming. Chlorine in pools, or grit and sand in sea water can dry out your hair extensions. This can lead to tangling and shedding. If you do find yourself in this situation, wash your hair immediately by following the instructions below for your specific texture. Brush out the hair with a Denman brush or a bristle brush. Make sure to use moisturizing oils such as Argan Oil, and/or leave-in conditioners to keep the hair healthy and tangle free.
- Avoid using any hair care products that contain sulfate. Sulfate agents tend to dry out your hair extensions which will cause the hair to tangle.
- If your hair does start to tangle, using a Denman brush or bristle brush to gently brush out the hair from the ends to the top. DO NOT brush or pull on the hair with excessive force, as this will cause the hair to shed.
- Use your hands first to detangle curly or coily hair textures. A Denman brush or bristle brush could also work. Be sure not to brush with excess force which could cause shedding.
- Wash your virgin hair extensions a minimum of once a week. Get it professionally washed by your stylist at least once every two weeks. This step is important for the health and longevity of your virgin hair extensions.
- All hair types tangle to a certain degree, so it’s important to apply moisturizing oils or leave-in conditioners. Use products specific for hair extensions as these products typically don’t include ingredients such as sulfate or alcohol that cause the hair to dull and dry out.
- Before going to bed it’s important to wrap the hair up. We highly recommend using silk wraps. This is especially important if you have long and/or curly textured hair extensions. We also reccommend sleeping with a satin pillow case.
- Be sure to brush your hair daily.
- For those that live in colder areas of the country, be mindful when weaing scarves or high neck outerwear which may cause the hair to tangle at the nape of the neck. We reccomend silk scarves to lessen the chance of your hair tangling. The same applies to one’s own natural hair.
- Be cautiaus of spending prlonged periods in the sun as this can dull and dry out the hair.
Co-Washing is short for conditioner-only washing. It means skipping shampoo and relying solely on the conditioner. The result of Co-Washing is something between squeaky-clean and second-day hair; that is smoother, softer and easier to manage. If you plan to color or bleach your hair, it’s good to Co-Wash it before doing so as chemical treatments to the hair can dry the hair out. Coloring of the hair requires more maintenance to keep it moisturized to prevent tangling which will lead to shedding.
Co-Washing is especially useful if you have dull, dry, curly and/or wavy hair. We reccommend using specific conditioners, typically called cleansing conditioners, which are designed for Co-Washing. If you’re going to make an investment in hair extensions, make sure to take good care of them. Co-Washing isn’t typically used on straight hair. Use cleansing conditioner with a pH of 5.5 (no higher than pH of 7). To prevent static and frizziness in the hair extension.
Before washing your hair extensions, be sure to brush out the hair thoroughly. Wet the hair from the ends to the top. Then work in any cleansing products in the same way, from ends to top.
To maintain your AVERA straight hair extensions:
Washing
- Wash your hair at least once a week with sulfate-free shampoo (moisturizing oil infused shampoo is recommended). Use shampoo with pH of 5.5 (No higher than pH of 7). This is to prevent frizz and static, which can cause the hair to tangle.
- Brush out the hair extensions and tangled spots BEFORE washing.
- Dilute the shampoo with warm water. Use shampoo designed specifically for hair extensions.
- Shampoo mixture should be gradually sponged into your hair extensions from the ends to the top. Applying too much water at one time could cause the hair extensions to swell and tangle.
- Rinse the hair with warm water thoroughly and gently. Always rinse with the water flowing in the same direction as the hair naturally falls.
- Apply conditioner (pH of 5.5; No higher than pH of 7) and gently use your fingers to work the conditioner into the hair, starting from the ends and working your way up.
- Rinse out the conditioner thoroughly and gently with warm water from the ends to the top. Detangle any spots as needed.
- Apply leave-in conditioner and/or moisturizing oil and then let the hair air dry.
- DO NOT wrap it up in a towel. This will pull on the hair and can cause it to tangle.
Brush your hair daily.
You can use styling products, but do so in moderation. You should use products that don’t contain alcohol. Excessive use of any styling products can cause the hair to clump together and tangle.
Before bed, you should braid the hair into a large loose braid in the back and wrap it in a silk head wrap or scarf. We also recommend sleeping on satin pillowcases.
In the morning, undo the braid and brush through the hair. Start at the ends and work your way up.
To maintain your AVERA wavy hair extensions:

Before bed, you should braid your hair into a large loose braid in the back and wrap your hair in a silk head wrap or scarf. We recommend sleeping on satin pillowcases.
In the morning, undo the braid and dampen the hair with a spray bottle. Especially the areas that were compressed during the night. The water will help restore the wavy curls. Then brush through the hair extensions, starting at the ends working your way up. Let hair air dry, then style as you wish.
You can get more curls using rollers or a curling iron. If you use styling products like gel, mousse and hairspray, use products that don’t contain alcohol and be sure to use only in moderation. Too many products can cause the hair to clump together and tangle.

- This is important. Apply leave-in conditioner and/or moisturizing oil and then let the hair air dry.
- DO NOT wrap it up in a towel. It pulls on the hair and can cause it to tangle.
During the day, if your hair develops some tangled spots, use your fingers to detangle. If you’re going to use a brush, do so gently as excessive force while brushing can cause shedding.
Before bed, you should create a large loose braid in the back and wrap it in a silk head wrap or scarf. We recommend sleeping on satin pillowcases.
In the morning, undo the braids and detangle any spots as needed. Dampen the hair with a spray bottle and gently sponge the water into the hair starting at the ends working your way up. This allow the curls to reform. Let the hair air dry and style to your desired look.
If using styling products, use products that don’t contain alcohol. Use the products in moderation to prevent clumping and tangling.

To maintain your AVERA frontals and closures:
- Follow the washing instructions for your specific texture. Frontals and closures require more attention.
- The hair strands on frontals and closures are hand sewn one by one onto the lace. Due to the delicate nature of these products, it’s very important to take extra care when brushing to prevent any shedding.
- Shedding or balding of frontals and closures typically are caused by excessive tugging and/or brushing.
- Avoid using any objects with rough edges, as it could tear into the lace. Such as bobby pins or metal hair clips.
- When washing your frontal or closure, take extra care not to rub or pull vigorously or excessively as this could cause the lace to shed.
These are general recommended guidelines for maintaining your hair. There may be other maintenance procedures you have personally found to be very helpful. Consult with your stylist as well in any tips or advice they may be able to give you to maintain your hair extensions.

HAIR USE
One bundle contains 3.5 oz. For a full weave, we recommend (2) bundles if you are purchasing hair 18 inches and shorter. For 20” - 24” we recommend (3) bundles. For 26” and over we recommend 4 bundles. Keep in mind it’s always better to have more than not enough. You will also need a closure to completely enclose the top so that none of your natural hair is left out.
How many sets you will need depends on the look you are going for. Each box comes with 7 clip-ins. If you want a look that is full glam and bouncy, we recommend two sets. Two sets are the absolute maximum most people will be able to fit into their head at a given time. If you simply want to add a little bit of length and volume to your natural hair, then you only need one set. The clip-ins are 10” in their natural state, 18” when stretched out.
Since our AVERA products are made with 100% authentic virgin hair, you can use any heat tools to create the look and style you desire. To regain the texture from before, just spray water into your extensions. Work the water into your hair extensions and watch the magic happen. As you mix the water into the hair, you’ll see the hair bouncing back to its original texture.

If you have a full weave installed, we recommend you go to your stylist to wash your hair at least once every (2) weeks. Washing your hair is important because it prevents tangling and shedding. Unless you have a dryer to sit under, we don’t recommend you washing your hair at home. You could develop mildew if you don’t completely dry your braids underneath your hair extensions.
If you're going to wash your hair at home, we recommend using a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. We also advise that you sit under a hooded dryer to ensure that your hair underneath is completely dry. You can also use a light leave-in conditioner on your extensions.
Be sure you are following all the prior hair care steps to ensure that your hair remains in the best condition possible. If you are experiencing any shedding or tangling be sure to brush through the hair starting at the bottom and working your way up. Wash the hair with a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, and apply a leave-in product.

We highly recommend this for our AVERA Curli Crush.
